Astronomical Observatory Val Pellice
Organizations, initiatives and companies of tourist interest, Luserna San Giovanni
“Tre passi verso le stelle fino a toccarle, tre passi per avvicinarle...”
(Three steps to the stars up to touch them, three steps bring them closer...)
These poetic words (see note below), well suited to those who climb the steep slope that leads from San Giovanni to the Colletto, found themselves facing the magnificent structure of the Val Pellice Observatory, designed and built by the Astrofili Urania Association in 1989. The property is surrounded by the uncontaminated nature of a charming pre-Alpine environment among woods, meadows, rocky landscapes and mountain views, suche as Frioland and the "King of Rock", the Monviso. Who reaches the structure is given a friendly welcome and availability by operators that gladly offer their technical and human expertise to satisfy the thousands curiosity of who wants to get closer to the stars.
The technological resources of the Association, including solar instruments, optical telescopes and a radio telescope (the only present in Piermont), allow the widest choice in science in which you want to deepen the knowledge. The study, may be further facilitated by the contents of the library containing more than 2500 volumes relating to science subjects related to astronomical sciences such as anthropology (Study of Humanity), the assessment of the time and the seasons (Calendars), gnomonic, physics, mathematics, cosmology, and other related cultures.
The location is frequented not only by members, but also by many other visitors, among them many students of all levels, from kindergarten up to university.
What more? ... We look forward to sharing our emotions!
